Fire damages Cole’s Woods bridge; not ‘natural cause’

The City of Glens Falls reported fire damage to a foot bridge in Cole’s Woods.

“Two 9-1-1 calls were received in the early morning of Saturday, Aug. 24, reporting that a footbridge in Cole’s Woods was smoldering,” the City said.

“The footbridge is located on the ‘Long Diagonal’ section of the Cole’s Woods Tom Jacobs Race Loop Trail.”

The bridge crosses Halfway Brook.

Five launches are planned at the 51st annual Adirondack Balloon Festival running Sept. 19-22. Here’s the day by day schedule released by the festival.

Thursday, September 19
Crandall Park, Glens Falls

4-6 PM: Opening Musical Performance
5 PM: Opening ceremonies, food vendors, kids activities
5:30-6:15 PM: Flight of up to 15 balloons, special shapes possible

Glens Falls Drag Queen story hour sold out; location to be revealed later

Lower Adirondack Pride scheduled a Drag Queen Story Hour in Glens Falls on Saturday, Sept. 21, from noon to 1 p.m.

The group said participants must register in advance and the location will not be shared with them until Friday, Sept. 20.

Pride flag will fly in GF, SGF, maybe more

Lower Adirondack Pride announced the Village of South Glens Falls has agreed to fly the Pride flag next June in recognition of Pride month.

The group said it has now reached out to Warren County, Washington County, the Villages of Hudson Falls and Lake George, and the Towns of Queensbury and Lake George, to fly the Pride flag at their municipal buildings next June.

Washington Co. amends its Occupancy Tax so all short-term rentals must pay 4%

The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved an amendment to the its Occupancy Tax law on Aug. 16 to require a 4% tax be collected anywhere a fee is imposed for an overnight stay regardless of how many units are available.

The law specifies short-term rentals — a dwelling rented for fewer than 30 consecutive days.
