EDC moving into former Empire Theatre

Chronicle Managing Editor Cathy DeDe writes: The Warren County Economic Development Corporation expects by next week to be in its new home — Mike Kaidas’s redeveloped Empire Theater building on South Street, Glens Falls.

The new office is in the space previously occupied by Trampoline Design, at the front of the second floor, an open room with a row of windows overlooking South Street and Glens Falls National Bank.

EDC President Jim Siplon said EDC outgrew its long-time office at 333 Glen, most known as the Travelers building.

The new location has the same 2,000 square feet of office space, “at the same cost,” Mr. Siplon says, but with an additional 1,000 square foot conference room.

“The work we do now, more and more we need that, to hold forums and workshops” for as many as 30 or 50 people.

Of the prior location, he said, “We’ve loved the place. The leadership there has been very helpful and supportive. But the space was designed for a handful of people working in their office by themselves.”

With $10 million in New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative grants headed toward South Street projects, Mr. Siplon says, “Great! Put us in the center of that. The sunshine and the redevelopment going on right outside those windows, that’s a metaphor I want to capture. It’s what we do.”

He said, “Two things: I want people to come into this office and think, this is not what I expected, and I want them to come in and see possibility.”

Meanwhile, Trampoline Advertising and Design no longer needs the office, Managing Partner Sean Magee tells The Chronicle. With their staff of 25 working remotely since March 2020, he said, it was “going largely unused.”

Trampoline continues to occupy a smaller office behind the now-EDC space: “Two video editing/sound studios, three separate offices and an open area,” for in-person projects, Mr. Magee said.

“We’re looking for someone to take that space as well,” he said. “It’s a little over 1,500 square feet.
