40 years of Jazz in Lake George!

By Cathy DeDe, Chronicle Managing Editor

The Lake George Arts Project celebrates the 40th anniversary of Jazz at the Lake, its free, three-day festival, Friday to Sunday, Sept. 13-15 in Shepard Park and beyond.

Lake George Jazz at 40 — 3 days, 11 shows, nearly all free! Pictured: Nicole Zuraitis. The Grammy winning jazz singer-band leader, and more headines Saturday night.
This year’s lineup includes four Grammy-winning artists — Ulysses Owens, Linda May Han Oh, Nicole Zuraitis, Danilo Perez — as well as rising star Jahari Stampley, trumpet virtuoso Michael Mayo “and many more,” including locals.

“We are incredibly proud to present a lineup that reflects the festival’s rich history while also pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz,” wrote Tanya Tobias, Executive Director of the Lake George Arts Project. “This year’s event promises to be our most unforgettable yet,”

The festival was founded in 1984 by then-Glens Falls newcomer Paul Pines, a New York City transplant who’d run the famed Tin Palace jazz club in the City.

When Paul passed in 2018, fellow artist and jazzman Daniel Kelly took on the musical curating, very much inspired by his friend’s wide-ranging jazz ethic and ear.

Here’s a look at this year’s offerings, all free (except one)! Note: the Village of Lake George is waiving all parking fees for Jazz at the Lake attendees, said info.
