Blais: LG Marriott hopes to open by Labor Day weekend

Dave Kenny’s six-story, $25-million Lake George Marriott hotel may not be open for another month, Lake George Village Mayor Robert Blais told The Chronicle Tuesday.

Mr. Kenny had not returned calls by press-time.

The mayor said Mr. Kenny “is telling us now that he hopes to be open in the later part of August.”

He initially hoped to open the 119-room hotel by Memorial Day, but earlier this summer he pushed that back to July.

“He’s hoping to be open by Labor Day weekend,” Mayor Blais said Tuesday. “Dave told me they aren’t taking reservations until the later part of August.

“The hold-up is he is upgrading the Marriott standards, so he has to wait for them to approve things. And the underground parking garage, which wasn’t part of the original plan, is taking longer than anticipated, and he needs that to be done before he opens the hotel.”

Mayor Blais said he’s been inside the hotel, and the rooms are “very nice. It’s going to be a terrific addition to the village.”

LG summer season is ‘fabulous,’ Mayor says

“Everyone tells me the summer has been fabulous so far,” Lake George Mayor Robert Blais told The Chronicle Tuesday.

A lot of business people have told me they had a record 4th of July weekend. The weather is the primary factor, particularly on the weekend, when you don’t get people who come here on vacation but get people who come here because it’s Lake George and the weather is nice.”

Mayor Blais said, “All of our barometers” used to gauge visitors to Lake George Village are up. Water consumption is up, flow into the treatment plant is up, and the parking meter revenue from the back streets is up 12% over last year.” — Gordon Woodworth
