Washington Co. eyes 1% hike in sales tax saying it could ease property tax

Washington County is considering a plan to raise the county sales tax by 1% as a means to mitigate property taxes.

The Board of Supervisors was presented an impact report of raising the sales tax rate from 7% to 8% during the April 11 Finance Committee meeting.

Lucky Puppy in Argyle

Since opening in 2019, Lucky Puppy Great Beginnings Adoption Center in Argyle said it has placed approximately 2,000 dogs in safe, loving homes.

The dogs come from the western Florida panhandle. Lucky Puppy Rescue was founded in Bonifay, Florida in 2008 at a 125-acre family farm.

Cedar waxwings dead in City Park

Alerted by a trusted Chronicle source, we asked the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation about a die-off of birds last weekend in City Park.

It confirmed, “DEC’s Division of Wildlife received a report on May 4, regarding approximately 20 to 30 cedar waxwing birds found deceased in front of Crandall Library in the city of Glens Falls,” a spokesperson said.
