Jakob White taking Flight

Jakob White, the Glens Falls native who drew acclaim in Boston for an American-Chilean restaurant, has moved back to Glens Falls and will open a “Southern-inspired” restaurant where Flight formerly operated in the redeveloped Empire Theatre building on South Street.

Proposition One is one hot potato

New York State’s Proposition One, on the November 5 ballot, is generating unusually high local interest.

Titled the Equal Rights Act, Prop One proposes amending the state constitution to expand protection against discrimination from four specific categories — “race, color, creed, and religion” — to nine, adding “ethnicity, national origin age, disability” and “sex.” Sex is further defined to include “sexual orientation, gender identity, …

Hooked turtle rescued

A turtle with a big hook lodged in its mouth was finally found and rescued on Friday, Oct. 4, at Crandall Park pond. “The guy literally just yonked it out of the water,” reports Kay Besheer of North Country Wild Care, who was leading up efforts to rescue the turtle.

The turtle’s plight had been publicized here and elsewhere since Sept. 17.

Queensbury Town Board votes big cut to its EDC funding

The Queensbury Town Board voted 3-1 on Monday, Oct. 7, to cut from $114,000 to $50,000 its funding to the Warren County Economic Development Corporation.

The cut will happen over three years.

Queensbury Town Supervisor John Strough’s plan calls for funding EDC $114,000 this year, $75,000 in 2025, then $50,000 in 2026.
