Mike Smith ends his auction

After 33 years auctioning antiques for a living, Mike Smith conducted his last one Saturday night at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

“It’s time. I’m 66,” Mr. Smith told The Chronicle Saturday afternoon — but he readily acknowledges that what prompted the end of Cherry Tree Auctions is that demand for antiques has plummeted.

Hudson Falls: Lewis Super closing Sept. 4, after 70 years

Lewis Supermarket on Burgoyne Avenue in Hudson Falls is closing.

“I broke the news to our employees this morning,” owner Em Lewis told The Chronicle Tuesday. He operates the store with his wife Debbie. He said Wednesday, Sept. 4, will be the store’s last day.

Luzerne Music Center seeks $2 million for camp housing

At this week’s Monday night concert featuring jazzman Chris Brubeck and his band Triple Play, Luzerne Music Center introduced two model log cabins for its planned housing upgrade.
