Big upgrades at GF’s East Field

East Field is getting new energy-efficient lights and other improvements.

“It’s a good start,” Mayor Dan Hall said. “The lights have been bad for a long time.”

Tim Havens to buy Maxwell’s next to Strand in Hudson Falls

A Hudson Falls power equipment dealer is buying Maxwell’s Pub on Main Street looking to assure it remains a restaurant.

Tim Havens, who owns the Falls Farm & Garden power equipment business on Dix Avenue in Hudson Falls, is under contract to buy Maxwell’s, which adjoins the revived Strand Theater.

Sides drawn in new push to ban ATVs on state land

Environmental groups have launched an effort to enact a law to ban ATVs — All-Terrain Vehicles — from all state land, including the 6-million-acre Adirondack Park.

ATVs are already prohibited on Forest Preserve land by the Department of Environmental Conservation, but advocates of new legislation say there aren’t enough Forest Rangers to enforce current laws and some ATV operators ignore the restrictions because penalties …

Sign of spring? Bob the Bullfrog re-emerges at the Crossroads

Chronicle News Editor Gordon Woodworth writes: Bob the Bullfrog has re-emerged from under the basement sump pump at the Crossroads Country Store in Chestertown.

“We had seen him, but on Saturday he came out and was hopping around the basement,” said Nathan West, whose family owns the business.

The 11-year-old bullfrog hibernates in the mud underneath the sump pump near the Crossroads’ bait tanks, eating minnows that float by.
