‘Taste of North Country’ is Sunday

The Glens Falls Kiwanis Club’s 23rd annual Taste of the North Country food festival returns to City Park in downtown Glens Falls on Sunday, Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain or shine.

Specialties from 37 area restaurants will be served in sample sizes. Nine restaurants are participating for the first time. “Come early for best selection!” urge the Kiwanians.

Civic Center nets $8,000 on wrestling, $9,000 on ‘Royal Horses’

Glens Falls Civic Center manager Jeff Mead reports 900 people attended the Big Time Wrestling event on Friday night and the Civic Center made a profit of $8,000.

And he said that 900 attended the Royal Horses Gala dressage show on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 20, and the Civic Center realized “a little over $9,000.”

Tony DeSare to sing National Anthem before Thursday night football, Oct. 1

Hudson Falls native Tony DeSare, backed by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, is scheduled to sing the National Anthem before the Pittsburgh Steelers-Baltimore Ravens game on Thursday, Oct. 1.

CBS will telecast the game nationally, but there’s no assurance they’ll show the anthem. Kickoff is 8:25 p.m., Tony told The Chronicle in an e-mail interview, “so I assume I’ll be on right before that.”

JUST Water says it’ll be on local shelves soon via Saratoga Eagle

JUST Beverages, which packages spring water pumped from the City of Glens Falls watershed, said it has signed a distribution agreement with Saratoga Eagle that will make its water available “from the Canadian border to the Capital District.”

Spokesman Mark Behan said Saratoga Eagle “is already starting to fulfill JUST water orders locally.”

Balloon Festival lands the Whale

Just at the last minute, the Adirondack Balloon Festival added a new special shaped balloon, a giant whale named “Baby Blue.” Weather permitting, it will fly at both launches on Saturday.

Pilot H.G. Steiner of Utah approached Adirondack Festival balloonmeister Bob Dicks just last week at a balloon festival in Pennsylvania.
