Queensbury Big Lots fire: Youth charged with arson

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office said: “On October 8th, 2023 at approximately 10:05 P.M., the Warren County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a fire alarm at the Big Lots at 751 Upper Glen Street in the Town of Queensbury. Sheriff’s Patrol Officers arrived on scene and discovered a working fire located on the loading dock of the business.

Barry Melrose has Parkinson’s, retires from ESPN

Barry Melrose, ESPN hockey commentator and former NHL and Adirondack Red Wing Coach, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and is retiring, the sports network reported Tuesday.

He is 67 years old.

Brown water update: Mayor says it should pass, no danger

Three times over 90 days, many Glens Falls residents have experienced alarmingly brown water.

“My water was running a color, I guess you could describe it as ‘Coca Cola brown,’” Crandall Street resident Mike Metzger told the Sept. 26 Common Council meeting.

Anxious or angry residents posted pictures on Facebook of bathtubs filled with rust-brown water.

Jones Ordway, lumber baron, gave GF ‘YMCA’ its downtown home, from 1892 to 1969

In 1890, Jones Ordway contributed $50,000 — the equivalent of $1.68 million in 2023 dollars — toward construction of the Glens Falls Y.M.C.A. building on Glen Street.

Police Chief says, aware of assault on South Street; ‘investigating’ but scant progress
