GF-SGF faculty ‘Bridge’ Basketball raised $4,523

“Red and Black supports Red and Blue!!” said a Glens Falls School District Facebook post touting success of the annual South Glens Falls-Glens Falls faculty game to benefit the Marathon Dance.

“Yep, we’re impressed too!!” the Glens Falls School District said. “WE all raised $4,523 at the Battle for the Bridge basketball game!!”

The game, pitting faculty and staff from South Glens Falls against Glens Falls faculty and staff, took place Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11.

Organizer and Glens Falls teacher Robert Amberger tells The Chronicle, “I’m not sure of the final score, but SGF won handily.”

He said, “The game itself is for fun. All of the players understand that we are playing to raise money and not necessarily the final score.

“I personally enjoy the camaraderie between the schools and community. There is quite a bit of overlap between families and teachers within the GF/SGF community. Students really enjoy cheering on their teachers and some made signs to show support.

“I also enjoy the national anthem collaboration between our Glens Falls Octet and South Glens Falls Vocal Point,” their two select chorus groups. “Always a beautiful rendition.”
Admission to the game was free; funds were raised through raffles, concessions and other donations.
