A kindergartener left Glens Falls’ Kensington Road Elementary school and was later found safe in Crandall Pond, Glens Falls City School District said.
The district said the incident occurred on Monday, September 9.
Glens Falls City School Superintendent Krislynn Dengler said in a message emailed to parents, “This is something we never want to have happen, and thankfully this is a very atypical event.”
“As soon as the child was noted to be missing, search protocols were activated and 911 was called. Within minutes, the child was intercepted by a community member, and is now safe,” The District said.
The District said it is “reviewing safety protocols and student response plans.”
“Plans are already underway to extend fencing across the wooded section of the school’s playground,” it added.
“This is something we never want to have happen, and thankfully this is a very atypical event,” Superintendent Dr. Krislynn Dengler was quoted. “Several adults monitor our recess periods. We are now reviewing the stationing and placement of staff members to optimize sight lines across the large playground area. We have safety protocols in place for all students, and will be including more individualized protocols for both staff members and students in light of this event. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our students, and will make every adjustment necessary to ensure student safety.”
